How to Get the Perfect Print

How to Get The Perfect Print

Your fingerprint is one of a kind — and capturing it beautifully is the first step to creating a piece of jewellery you’ll treasure forever. Whether you’re ordering for yourself or as a gift for someone special, we’ve made the process as simple and stress-free as possible.
We offer two ways to capture your print, depending on the type of jewellery you’ve chosen.

For 3D Fingerprint Jewellery — Mould Kit

Your 3D fingerprint jewellery is created from a physical impression of your finger, which means we’ll need a little more detail than a photograph can provide. Once you place your order, we’ll post out a mould kit directly to you.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Take your time — find a quiet moment when you’re relaxed. Rushing can lead to smudged or shallow impressions, so set aside a few minutes just for this.
  2. Follow the instructions included in your kit — the putty is easy to work with and you’ll have everything you need.
  3. Press firmly and evenly — press your finger slowly and steadily into the putty, ensuring the full pad of your finger makes contact. Don’t twist or rock your finger as you press.
  4. Hold still — keep your finger in place for the time indicated in your instructions, then lift it straight up and away.
  5. Check your impression — you should be able to see the fine lines and ridges of your fingerprint clearly. If you’re not happy with it, most kits include enough putty for a second attempt.
  6. Post it back to us — once you’re happy with your impression, simply return it using the prepaid packaging provided.

Top tip: Warm hands produce a better impression. Run your hands under warm water for a minute or two before you begin.

For 2D Fingerprint Jewellery — Digital Photo Submission

Your 2D fingerprint jewellery is crafted from a high-quality image of your print, which you can capture easily at home using your smartphone.

Here’s how to get a great result:

  1. Use a dark ink pad or pen — press your finger onto an ink pad or colour the fingertip gently with a dark biro or marker. Make sure the full pad of your finger is covered evenly.
  2. Press onto white paper — press your inked finger firmly onto a clean piece of white paper, hold for a second, then lift straight up. You should see a clear, detailed print.
  3. Check the quality — the lines and ridges should be clearly visible. If the print looks smudged or faint, simply try again on a fresh area of the paper.
  4. Take a photo — in good natural light, photograph your print straight on (not at an angle). Make sure the image is in focus and the print fills the frame as much as possible.
  5. Submit your image — upload your photo as part of your order process or send it to us directly using the details provided.

Top tip: Natural daylight gives the best results. Avoid using flash, as this can wash out the fine detail in your print.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Prints from babies and young children can be trickier to capture — little fingers move quickly! Take your time and don’t worry if it takes a couple of attempts.
  • If you’re capturing a print as a gift and need a little guidance, feel free to get in touch — we’re always happy to help.
  • We’ll let you know if we feel the print quality isn’t quite right before we begin crafting your piece, so you can rest assured you’re in good hands every step of the way.
